What is the square symbol used for in drawings

Hello

What is the purpose of the square symbol under the diameter symbol (see image) in the properties of a dimension in a drawing?

It is a symbol that is added before a coast like the diameter symbol.

Kind regards.

Personally, I use it when I have a square shape to side

So it must be able to be used for both extrusion and material removal?

Good evening

I confirm what @stefbeno has just written ! Normally reserved for profiles (the main ones have their symbol for example HBA! Personally, I use it for square profiles, it allows me to put only one dimension instead of two.  NF ISO 5251

But I find these symbols a little too limited for example it's the same symbol for IPN or HEA HEB, etc which means that you always have to put the annotation that goes well :-(

Kind regards

This is good for square profiles, the equivalent of Phi for diameters.

Oh well, I wasn't the one who dug it up, I didn't pay attention to the date. And for the red message, indeed, except that when I write a short reply I only look at the keyboard or what I write and I send  sorry
