Buying a second-hand license: why not? On the other hand, updating for 1700€, I don't believe in it at all! In my company, we just switched from 2008 to 2012 and we were forced to pay for new licenses since our maintenance had expired.
In your case, I guess there is no maintenance, so no update possible... Or maybe we were fooled by the reseller solidworks.
Be careful that it is not an education version because for me version 2009/2010 it is an education license, because the professional version only appears with one year of version.
It is impossible to purchase a second-hand SOLIDWORKS license because French and European law prohibits it. Indeed, a software license is non-transferable, so beware of people who want to sell you SOLIDWORKS licenses, for a price that defies all competition because it is in any case a scam.
There are only two ways to purchase a SOLIDWORKS license. Either contact an authorized reseller (AXEMBLE for example), or buy a company that already has SOLIDWORKS licenses and you benefit from the right to use them.
Also beware of auctions with hardware on which SOLIDWORKS will be installed, for example. In this case you can use the hardware and the license, but you are making yourself illegal and an authorized reseller will never be able to update the license for you!
In principle, keeping the purchase of the maintenance every year is to have a credit so that 3 years later you can benefit from the latest version. Personally that's what I do, but I only have one job!
I understand companies with more than 3 positions....
On the other hand, you can change the user of the license, (already seen) but no question of resale between companies.
As a result, after the entry into its capital of a large company, a small company (okay to buy by the big company) benefits from a license transfer.
I think this is the second possible case.
@BATCH123! Want to buy a company or be bought out? Laughing out loud
When you install a SolidWorks license, you agree to the terms and conditions...
and the licenses are deemed non-assignable, non-transferable.
Regarding the versions: except for the education versions, no 2009/2010 package.
It's either a 2009 version or a 2010 version.
If it's a 2010, you'll be able to read and use Solidworks 2009/2008/2007 files, etc.
@Rim B: Where did you read or see that you had to pay for SW licenses again after 3 years without contracts?
This has never been the case. NEVER.
On the other hand, maybe you paid a resubscription package and then paid 3 years in advance for an update and support contract.
In short: no purchase of a solidworks license possible for 1700€, it's the price of a year of maintenance and update, and as bfrin rightly says, if you ever want to update this illegally purchased license, you won't be able to because the right of use will still be legally granted to the person or company that sold it to you:(
@olive: Indeed, after some information, I confused the licenses we bought (paid for in full) with the one we updated from 2008 to 2012 (paid only for the update). Sorry for this misunderstanding.
However, I remain convinced that there is a scam as far as the resale of licenses is concerned.
I don't think it's that simple, but I looked in my solidworks portal settings, to change the user of the license you have to contact your reseller. So in any case, even if manipulation seems theoretically possible, it must not be easy.
And the second point it seems very strange to me that buying a single maintenance gives the right to have the latest updates.
The point on the honesty of the person is not in question, because by ignorance they can be in good faith.
Have a good day together. Remember to always buy the software used only from reputable resellers. These can be recognized, for example, by many positive reviews on eBay or Trusted Shops.
Microsoft has blocked more than 50,000 illegal licenses in recent years. This hurt many customers. That's why this topic is always up to date. I just wanted to point that out.
It was explained to me that a c license is linked to a machine, and that you can't resell it, maybe transfer it to another computer (so recover the transferred files when uninstalling.
