Is there an option to display the material of each component in the FeatureManager of an assembly?

Yes tab evaluate/visualize the assembly, click on the small arrow to the right of the column headings, choose other from the drop-down menu and then in the property drop-down choose materials.
Obviously the subjects must be completed in the .sldprt...
