Help: design of a 3D box with mechanical lever

I am developing a personal safety device and I need help with the mechanical part (I am a beginner).

The principle:

  • Portable Case
  • syringe/cartridge
  • mechanical system (lever / trigger / pusher to be set) to squeeze the syringe
  • Anti-trip safety + return to position

The mechanism will then be connected to an electronic micro-board only to detect the action and send a command to an application.

I'm mainly looking for advice on method :

  • How to check that a lever can work with a syringe (effort, stroke)?
  • Where to start to prototype/model simply?

Maybe you can do a mechanical study? Of the "horned beast" type, kinematics, simplified diagram, analysis of the primary function and secondary functions etc ...
If you start without a clear direction of what you want, you won't be able to move forward in a structured way.
Or you present part of your study.
Identical systems already exist in the medical sector, for example.
