You said you need a dxf file with polylines.
It seems to me that basically, solidworks exports dxf with splines and not polylines.
Go to Options -> System Options -> Export, select the dxf format and check the box "Export all splines as polylines". (See pj)

I'm attaching the DXF arc conversion if it helps.
But yes the letters will prose a problem so you have to make a choice between V-engraving or removal of material by flat cutter.
Thank you all for your involvement, I modified the export settings as proposed by Gauthik67 and sent the files back to the carpenter.
I will keep you informed of his response.
