Drilling Annotation in MEP

Hello

During a drawing, for a full-length through-hole and tapped hole specified "to the next surface" for the hole and tapping, SW indicates the depth of the tap in the drawing.

In calloutformat, there are the following two types of holes:

* drilledand tapped thru
TAP-THRU(tt)=<MOD-DIAM><hw-threaddesc>

* drilledthru but with blind threads
TAP-DRILLTHRU=<hw-threaddesc><HOLE-DEPTH><hw-threaddepth>

My question is as follows:

Why does SW select the second type of drilling when it is told "to the next surface" and not when it is told "through everything"?

Thank you in advance.

Hello.

If you take a U-profile for example and put your hole on one of the wings.

With the "through everything", you'll break through both wings

With the "until the next surface" you will only break through in the 1st wing. As a result, he must specify a length so that the machinist understands that he must not drill in both wings.

So, in your case, where you have a piece of a piece, you might be better off putting your piercing "through everything"
