Soften Stiffen a sub-assembly

Hi everyone;  

I'm using CATIA V5 for my project, I'm new to Assembly Design, and I just discovered the function: Soften - Stiffen a sub-assembly.

I would like to ask you: 

1/ Should we apply  the Soften function on a component that is supposed to make a translation or rotation movement?

2/ If this is the case, then in the event that I do not apply this function on the component, in your opinion what can happen (subsequently in CATIA KINEMATICS )?

Hello

The command soften and use on a sub-assembly (CATProduct).

It makes it possible to  constrain parts of this sub-assembly  (parts or sub-assembly) independently of the other elements of this sub-assembly.

Ex soften a cylinder sub-assembly to constrain from the head assembly the movement rod in, rod out
