I have to carry out a project that consists of designing a chiller for the agronomic industry on SW. This 3D model must be configurable, basically, if I change the dimensions of this machine, the 3D model (parts + assembly + plans + BOM) must be updated. I'm at that point. Now, I have to transfer my BOM to an Excel file to then perform a costing which must also be automatic.
So I'm looking for a solution that, when creating a new template, automatically transfers my BOM to an Excel file.
Thank you in advance for your answers!
FYI, I'm using SW 2017 with DriveWorks Xpress for the automation of my model
To my knowledge there is no dynamic link between SW and excel except maybe with a macro. Especially if you attach the thumbnail of the parts, it's completely encapsulated and therefore immodifiable. :-{
If it exists, it would be very useful to me too because for prototypes we don't have to change the dimensions or the name of the files.
I don't know much about DriveWorks, but if it doesn't allow you to pull in an Excel BOM, there's no basic automatic tool in SW that allows you to do so (bilaterally at least).
Solutions:
1- Develop or have developed via macro your own solution, with the cost that this generates in dev subcontracting, and the high technical capacities and time for the dev solution by your own means.
2- find a commercial solution that does what you want: see if PilotAssembly (MyCadTools from Visiativ) can suit your request:
If so, in my opinion, the cost of the MyCadtools license will save you a lot of time, the time you will otherwise spend in dev and the uncertainty of getting to the end of your project (it's up to me to have a very good base in SW dev).
