Hi all
My company is about to change our CAD workstations.
That's why I'm reaching out to you, to get your opinion on the proposed configuration.
We now use SW 2014 but we change versions every year after the release of SP2 or SP3.
We work on assemblies that can go up to 5000 to 7000 pieces.
The new config. is as follows:
Workstation HP Z440
Intel Xeon E5 processor - 1620v3 3.5Ghz
16 GB RAM
ZTurbo 256 GB SSD
2nd Sata 1TB Hard Drive
Graphics card Nvidia Quadro K2200
DVD SuperMulti
1GB/s network port
Could you give me your opinion on this cong. hardware?
Thanks in advance

All this seems correct to me for a good use
a proc that has a good frequency with 3.5 Ghz of bass
a 16 giga of ram which gives 4 giga per core
a 256 ca SSD is also good for the system and the logs
and 1 tera of storage what to ask for +
A card that is good

We have just acquired 3 new workstations at DELL:
-two of which are the following characteristics:
Intel® Xeon® E5-1620 v3 Processor (4 Core, 3.5 GHz, Turbo, HT, 10 MB Cache, 140 W) DDR4 8GB1 to 2133MHz 500GB 3.5" SATA hard drive (7,200 rpm) NVIDIA® Quadro® K2200 Graphics Card - and one that boosts really well (to use Solidworks Simulation in particular):
Intel® Xeon® E5-1650 v3 Processor (6 Core, 3.5 GHz, Turbo, HT, 15 MB Cache, 140 W) DDR4 32GB1 to 2133MHz 2.5" 256GB SATA SSD 4GB NVIDIA® Quadro® K4200 graphics card For the moment, nothing to complain about SW 2014, it's good stuff

I have the model just before, with less power, I have no problems.
Your machine is a competition machine! ;)

opinion:
pushed to 32GB for the Ram because the more you go up in the version of sw the more it is gourment.
SSD yes but for whom? Just the system?
What is the 1TB used for if it's to store files that aren't used for work it's very good, but if it's part files used for CAD it's like having 2CV wheels on a ferrarie.
After many tests I have 2 SSD 512 crucial for the system in mirored (Raid) on which are win7 and all my software split so as to have a part of 60GB for solidworks data and the rest software
a 256GB hyperX SSD disc split for my libraries and my projects to work in real time
1 small 128 rackable SSD for nomadic projects
and finally a big 2TB for system backups (7200rpm)
The last 3 points are not necessary for a company that works in EPDM

Hello
Our IT department installed LENOVO ThinkStation S20 stations for us:
- Intel Xeon CPU W3690 3.47GHz 3.46GHz
- OS: Seven Pro 64bits
- 24GB RAM
- NVIDIA Quadro 4000 card
- HDD 300GB 15000rpm
- Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet NIC
- Sirnas server for networked data (Libraries and backup)
After 1 year of use I must admit that it changes your life! Especially compared to the office workstations we had.
In local work, a high write speed of the HDD is required, while in network work the card and the write speed of the server is at stake.
I agree with @SEPM. Gerald on the RAM, don't hesitate to put the max supported by the station.
