Hello
So I'm working with SW 2020 + PDM and I'd like to create a design library to create a folder structure grouping the company's "standard parts".
So far, nothing too complicated unless I want the files in my library not to be all grouped in the same place.
Indeed, working with PDM and since our standard parts (which are in fact contract parts) are stored in a folder common to other non-standard parts.
→ so if I set this folder as the folder of my library I would have all the pieces contained in this folder that will appear in the library
Basically, we have a folder for all the series parts and of all the parts contained in this file I would like to put a certain number in the library (a tiny part and in different categories).
I saw that I can "clone" serial parts by dragging them into the library, but this means that if I modify my serial part, the library part will not be updated and will not carry all the information of the serial part.
What I'd like is actually a kind of library of shortcuts to parts.
For example a tensioner roller folder in which I could drag a shortcut to all my rollers
I wouldn't want to group my standard parts by folder because being in PDM it would require flow modifications etc... because the folder will define the flow into which the part falls and many dispatches should be modified.
Here is if you have any questions or ideas!
Thank you
I'm not familiar with PDM but maybe you can define some kind of attribute that indicates that the part is a standard?
Hello
I think that the "shared paste" function should answer your problem.
It allows you to have a file visible in different folders that are linked without creating a copy that would be a duplicate that is never up-to-date.
Context Menu for Files and Folders - 2020 - SOLIDWORKS PDM Help
See in the paste options.
Rights must be set up to be able to perform this action at the folder and workflow state level.

So it's a PDM option to configure and not solidworks? That's right?
Thank you cyril for your precious help.
I read this about the paste share:
-
in SW Help:Although possible, it is not recommended to paste shared assemblies because it can cause problems with the check-in and check-out commands.
-
NOTE : Shared files should be used primarily for non-CAD files or files without a reference structure. For more information, see SOLIDWORKS Knowledge Base S-066219.
Do you know if this is still relevant?
Indeed, looking at the principle of this feature, it really seems to fit with my need since I can build a library using a shared file that I put in a folder /subfolder. But my need is exclusively for CAD and potentially assemblies (but not 2d)
Not more tested than that but this KB still dates from 2014.
In my opinion, the problem is certainly related to the data cards (if they are different in the different folders it could generate problems but unless I'm mistaken, the map is not mandatory) and probably to the rights in the different folders.
The workflow rights remain that of the base file, but if in the shared folder the user does not have extraction rights, it does not work.
To be tested by slipping into the groups that will be used.
