I'm working on solidworks 2018 sp3 (I'm independent, I bought the license but I didn't take the updates so no access to maintenance)
I don't understand the window to select faces or bodies or whatever has gone black
I tried to repair solidworks and then reinstall it , the problem persists
I also tried to reinstall my graphics card drivers
If you have an idea, it would be super nice, I'm working on a big project and I need to color my pieces

Does this only do you in the "Appearance" function or is it also the case in other functions where you have to select faces (e.g. "Draft" function)?
One avenue perhaps to explore, the path of "Color Samples" may not be good in the SW options.

Strange that it persists, especially after having done the manipulations you announced.
Did you clean up the registry between uninstalling and reinstalling?
Does the rest work, regardless of this area? i.e. if you click on a face, does it take on the color?
Are there other functions (using an analogous selection area, such as fillet/chamfer) that have the same problem?
One last IT lead: create a new user on the machine. If it works, there is probably a problem in the registry, see then my first question.
