I'm in the process of creating a part map on solidworks PDM, I'd like to know if it's possible to create a drop-down menu, with possible choices of the different materials added in the library, following a variable, to avoid having to update every time I add a material in SW.

To my knowledge, it is not possible to link the Solidworks material "database" to a drop-down list in the vault.
In our case, the material is selected in Solidworks and then moved up in the maps to a text field that is mapped to a property of the file.
After that, as you can link lists from the vault to a SQL database, you should see if there is not a possibility to type in the vault database using a template file containing all the materials used and put it all in a variable.
In my opinion, the easiest way would be to get in touch with the hotline to see if they haven't already set this up with a client.

Indeed for the moment we use the same process as you (repeat a piece of information from Solidworks). Now the second option is possible, but not easy to set up. I'll see later. I'll see with the support first.
