How to make a sheet metal setting, to have the bending development

Hello everyone, so that someone can tell me how to do it. I would like to make a flower box

with SOLIDWORKS 2020.

I make a plane with a square shape and a second plane with a 6-sided shape

Hello

You can use the "Transition Fold" feature between your 2 sketches. On the other hand, the 2 sketches must have the same number of entities. It is also necessary to provide an opening so that the unfolding can be done. (Example attached in SW2019)

Kind regards

Hello Pascal,

Feel free to provide the 3D of your design as an attachment. This allows the people who answer to do so more accurately.

To turn your sheet metal design so that you can unfold it, you first need to make sure it's in the form:

  • Either an assembly of two parts (your one-sided part and your six-sided part)
  • Or a room with two distinct bodies (idem)

Once this is done, you will only have to use the "Sheet metal/Convert to sheet metal" function. To use this feature, you'll need to specify parameters like:

  • A fixed side that will not move when unfolded
  • An edge that will be cut
  • The edges that will be bent
  • The bend radius
  • The parameter related to the manufacture which indicates how much material to add to make the fold (k-factor or other)
