How do I keep the cross-sectional view active when changing configuration?

Hello

We have just switched to SW2021 and notice that the cross-sectional view display mode (in an assembly) skips when we change model configurations, which was not the case with the 2019 version we use before.

Is there a setting that needs to be changed?

Otherwise I thought  it was a graphics card driver problem because we also have some small display bugs especially on the mep and the hatching display. The IT administrator is on vacation, I can'  t test the driver update:(

Thank you for your help and a good end of the year!!

Good evening

Take away a doubt, you're talking about cutting in the MEP or the display of the 3D model on the screen. If that's it, a simple refresh should be enough (icon like bi-color fire)

I don't see why there would be a link between a change of configuration and the graphics card.

I hope you installed the SP5 of the 2021!

For the other display bugs: could you tell us what type of graphics card (the reference) and which version of Windows.

Kind regards

Hello Zozo_mp and Best Wishes

I'm talking about the cross-sectional display of the 3D model on the screen. Cooling is not enough, I of course tried it first:)

We have successfully installed SW2021 SP5.1

We are on DELL PRECISION 5820 workstations running windows 10 pro version 21H1

with Nvidia QUADRO P1000 graphics card driver version 23.21.13.8816

Kind regards

Hello @libellule944

Visiativ just installed the 2021 for me and I just made your piece.

I have no problem. See if you have the same problem with the piece I made  for you ;-)

You have one where there is the cross-sectional view and the other where the uncut piece is located.

In my example there is no config. Send me a piece so that I can see if I can do something

Kind regards

I don't really see the difference between your 2 pieces, but I think we didn't understand each other well.

In fact I have an assembly of a cylinder with 2 configurations: retracted rod and outlet rod.

I activate the display in front plane section for example in the rod retracted config, and then I activate the rod output config.

It's when changing the config that I lose the cross-sectional display. I have to reactivate it every time. Unfortunately I can't share my file, I'll try to make a little assembly for example when I have 5 minutes.

Thank you for your help in any case

Good evening

Indeed but it doesn't seem to me that you indicated that it was a jack type assembly.

Just out of curiosity why do you use a configuration to manage the two positions of the cylinder. Why this solution rather than managing it with constraints one for entry and one for exit.

One of our colleagues who masters the configs should come and help you.

Good luck with the rest

Kind regards

Hi, Indeed we use the configs because depending on the complexity of our cylinders there can sometimes be several rod movements (different positions) and therefore several constraints to modify on parts independent of each other. And then it's historic, we have more than 20 years of use of solidworks in my company:)

I add screenshot of an example as well as the corresponding assembly

And thank you again zozo_mp for your time

Hello @libellule944,

On a cylinder similar to yours built under the 2020 version, with both piston in/out configurations, the cross-sectional view is well preserved when switching from one configuration to the other. With the 2021 version, when opening the same assembly, the cross-sectional view is lost when changing the configuration.

I suspected for a while a display state problem related to the configuration, but the problem persists if you keep only one display state.

Last point: by checking the "Graphic section only" box in the property manager of the section view, the section is preserved when the configuration is changed. On the other hand, the quality of the display is degraded, and the selection of cut flat faces is no longer possible.

To conclude, it looks very much like an anomaly in the 2021 version.

Kind regards...

Thank you m.blt

Indeed, same observation with in "graphic section only"

I'll report the problem directly to support to see. I will tell you what it is

Hello

Publisher's response following the opening of a ticket on mycadservices support: "it's a bug in the 2021 version, the problem is known" we need to be notified if it is resolved. So I think I'll have to wait for the SW2022 SP5.x to hope for an evolution (we only change versions when all the SPs are out)

Hello

I have exactly the same problem when switching from the 2019 to the 2021.
Do you know if there has been a fix or any solution since then, knowing that personally I would be forced to stay on the 2021 because it is the version that our client uses.
I'm on SP 5.1, so I'm afraid that there have never been any fixes a priori...
But you never know? A roundabout solution perhaps?

I think the answer is unfortunately in the message just above:

So a priori no solution other than the higher version

FYI, we have upgraded to SW2023 SP5.0 and the problem is solved

So it only took Solidworks two years to go back 4 years??!! There's progress!! :upside_down_face:
