This is not possible, Solidworks does not manage compatibility between N to N-1 versions, it only works the other way around.

It's impossible, you can view 2018 files with 2017 sp5 but no modification. You can tinker by saving the 2018 file in STEP then opening it with 2017 and then using featureworks which will recognize the functions but on the other hand you will have to redo the MEP...

One can only open 3D files in earlier versions. The plan is not concerned by this interoperability (it seemed to me that they had skipped a version and abandoned it afterwards)
