Hello Dominique, If I understand correctly, you have PCs with SW2014 installed. Who installed the license server for you? As a college, you have special conditions and could benefit from the latest version. Contact the school management or the referent teacher, the IT department or the service provider who manages the network.
It seems to me that there should be no more than 2 years of difference between the sw version and the license management version. (here 2014-> 2025? = high risk of Pb) On the other hand, I can't find the source anymore. It seems to me that @Cyril_f or @stefbeno are more knowledgeable on the subject.
Edit: if pc not very powerful the right one in demand CPU and GPU sw 2014 to 2024 or 2025 is important indeed, and graphics cards have little chance of being compatible effectively.
As far as I know, the license server has no limitations in terms of version deviation (it's only a token to obtain a license, no SW specific features). Limitations to N-2 exist for Solidworks PDM vs Solidworks
