Packed & Go

Hello

I made a take-away composition (transformed abc into xyz), containing piece, ass'y and mep.

When modifying my new mep (based on ABC project ). My nomenclature doesn't want to be done on the mep of xyz.

He still gives me a nomenclature for abc. How can I break this link?

Hello

I'm not sure, if I understood correctly what you want to do,  that take-home composition is the best way to do it. In any case, this is not the purpose of this position.

As the name of the function says, it's takeaway (implied with all the links between the parts and sub-assemblies and assemblies). So that the person who receives the files at the other end is all the files (otherwise there are errors and the parts messages not found. It includes everything, but nothing more.

For example, I make sets that are always between 500 and 1500 parts, so I am sure that everything is taken into account, including MEP, Nomenclature, studies, etc...

Indeed, the links between the pieces are in the ASM and not generated by the composition to be taken away.

After that, it is possible to put a prefix or a suffix on the exported elements. In which case there will be no more link.

Example: Tore_tu.asm is composed of Torti and Torta. SLDPRT

If you put a suffix _zz it will either give Tore_tu_zz.asm
and if you also put the same suffix on your shares you will also have
Torti_zz and Torta_zz.

So if the pieces come back to you, they can only be used together without being able to mix with those without a suffix. I do this for old versions or modification upgrades.

In fact, this amounts to "save as" - "as a copy and continue".

You have to remember to check everything off if you also want the MEP and the nomenclature and maybe also something else like the results of the simulation.

Putting a prefix or suffix may require updating the files in the MEP with the green swallow (which may have turned red after the changes) which is in the right Frame in the MEP. (where there are the different views to insert from the MEP)

Could you explain to us why you want to make "Composition à go" and who sends you your pieces. There's something I find weird or don't understand. :-)

Kind regards

@Zozo: The take-home composition allows you to duplicate a project by making a general renaming by rule (basic but effective), useful when you don't use EPDM.

@Melyssa: try to check that the drawing you are modifying uses the right template (file/search for references).
When you made your composition to go, did you mix the files or put them in separate directories?

Hello

stupid question but have you deleted the nomenclature of the plan and then redone. because even after a composition it is normal that the nomenclature points to the original assembly, for me it's not logical but that's how it is!

What do the configuration tab say in the nomenclature it's a good clue.

may the force be with you.

Hello Stefbeno

Thank you for your remark and suggestion.

[HS ON]

Can you tell me more about  duplicating a project by doing a general renaming by rule (basic but effective), useful when you don't use EPDM.

Because I'm very interested in it because I think I don't use all the possibilities, especially since I don't have EPDM :-)

[HS /OFF]

Thank you Stef and sorry Melyssa for polluting your subject.

Hello indeed I wanted to duplicate a project while keeping the links between the pieces ... And for this I also took the trouble to change each part name keeping the same logic for them, i.e. the first assembly ABC and these parts abc1, abc2.... So the assembly wanted almost identical was copied with comp took with a different name either XYZ and these parts XYZ1, XYZ2 .... and all in a different folder name as the ass'y... XYZ. During the composition all the desired boxes were checked, including the checkmark and the nomenclature too.

I don't know what the green swallow is but indeed I regenerated and tried to remove the nomenclature to always put it back the same result it describes to me the assembly abc in the nomenclature.

And yet, when I click on say, part abc1 in the nomenclature, it opens room xyz1 for me.

What I saw later in the day is that the part name links in the original BOM was broken and blocked. Since it is a very old assembly, it is possible that the previous designer worked differently.

I hope I have clarified my situation in order to understand what is going on

Hello;

Does the name of your items that appear in the BOM refer to the name of the file being used, or is this name user-generated (custom properties of the document)?

In the second case, you should probably restart the personal properties on all your parts and assemblies.

Otherwise try to modify the column on "Part number" in your nomenclatures...

Kind regards.

It's simple, when you make a take-away comp, you have a find/replace button that allows you to play with the select/deselect options, with the right strings (this is the tricky part to make sure you don't lose/modify an info) to rename the files of a case.
I made a few captures, cf PC.

In my case, I have to be careful especially on commercial parts, where we are asked for a deal-manufacturer-reference, and often in the references we have surprises...

@Melyssa: Have you looked in file/search for references or by doing file/open/select MEP/References, which model(s) your MEP refers to?

Thank you Stefbeno for this valuable information.

It's going to solve a whole bunch of problems for me and you can't even imagine how much it's going to help me.

You can go home very happy , especially since I myself am very happy and light as if with a weight off.

It was the management of successive versions that was causing me problems and I added a suffix each time, which meant that I had long room names. Part that I renamed correctly only when the project was stabilized and finished and before the fab. I've never looked too much into the subject because I only make special parts and assemblies so no sophisticated management of parts family as I see with admiration on the forum.

DO you no what ????   I'm happy
