Tips for the SheetMetalManufacturing tool

Hi Maclane,

Do you think the problem comes from the "complexity" of the part file?
I wonder if the problem comes from the fact that some files were created with old versions of SW, even converted by saving to a more recent version, the sheet metal function has evolved and this may create problems...
Do you use this module regularly? Do you know the file size limits that can work well?

No, it's my very first time I've tested this module... Sorry.
However, I think, knowing the other tools of the MyCad suite, that the latter prefers to work with an assembly rather than with a parts file.
But your file is relatively interesting even if there are still some external references to Lock/delete).

Kind regards.

Hi all
I use SheetMetalManufacturing to do my MEPs, never a problem (for now...).
For DXFDWG exports I have already had a "bug", if the sheet has an error when unfolding or if SW does not unfold it for any reason, it remains in projected view.
It looks like the screenshot from your last post.
Maybe we should do a little check on this side...
Good night.

Yes, as @a.eriaud says, look to see if a config-flatpattern of each room already exists.
If so, checked that the config is already unfolded, if no flatpattern checked manually on a part that it unfolds well.
I'm in SW2020 so impossible to try

Hello
I did a test and I reproduce the problem with your file, there is a problem updating the view in the drawing in the config-flatpattern configuration.
Views are associated with the correct configurations, but they don't update.
They update only if you open the 3D from the drawing view and switch back to the plane.
I escalated this to development to see how we can work around this problem and make sure that SW rebuilds the view with the associated configuration.

Hello prossignol and all the others who answer me^^
Thank you for your answers.

I also look on my side by simplifying my file or by unfolding only part of the sheet metal.

I was preparing my play in an earlier version to share it.

I also noticed that there is something that is problematic. The plexiglass look in the added piece takes precedence when I unfold the side. Simply remove it to unfold the sheet properly.

But then I still have problems where I only see the edge of my sheet metal and not necessarily isolated from the other bodies.

And if you remove all the flat-pattern and restart SheetMetal?
It's unlikely to work but hey.
Otherwise @prossignol part of Visiativ which develops this software, so unlikely to get around this problem without software modification.

Yes I tried sbadenis.

And I even try to do it with sheet metal work each time.
The flank sheet only seems to work, but in the wrong orientation (you can only see the thickness of the sheet).
And this is the case for most sheet metal.
As you say prossignol, switching to the drawing updates it for me, but each time for only one sheet metal at a time, so I can't export the whole thing properly in DWG.
I'll look a little more if I can achieve something.
I'm trying MycadTools and this module is the most interesting for me at the moment.

Hello
After analyzing the problem, we will add an option to solve these special cases when we encounter a SOLIDWORKS reconstruction problem.
It will display the 3D after each sheet metal body view is created in the unfolded state configuration.
We are currently testing/finalizing the myCADtools 2023 release.
It will be released in early December.

Hello

Thank you very much for your answer.
Thank you also for taking my comments into account

I'll try the module again later.

FYI the 2023 version has just been released, if you're still in a trial period:

Thank you @sbadenis you're faster than me

The option is here:

Philippe

Thank you, I'll look at it closely

I would say more that it's my windows that is faster, since it's the one that showed me the update.

Well I tried it and it's much better, all my sheet metal is unfolded perfectly,
Now I still have 2 little ones

worries.

I don't have any more DWG generated at the end of the operation, but I keep the drawing open so it's not too bad I can save it myself.

And my sheet metal work is not all well oriented.

Some are on the edge, others are slightly inclined, which is problematic for using laser cutting.

If you remove the flat-pattern configuration of the inclined part or on the edge and restart sheetmetal you still have the same defect?
It also happens when you completely modify a sheet metal the flat-pattern becomes totally wrong and the only way is to delete this config and redo it (here via sheetmetal)

Hello

Indeed, there is indeed a problem of orientation in some cases.
I have opened a request so that we can analyze this problem:

R&Dmy - Anomaly #161284
The view in the unfolded state is tilted

Regarding the DWG generation problem, I don't reproduce it.
Can you tell me your methodology?

Sincerely,

Hello

Thank you for noting my problem

Then for the export, it worked without problems before the update.
Since no more DWG running the tool, I have to keep the drawing open to save it myself.
Attached are the parameters of SMM.

Thank you!

Hello

Is the problem only present on a file?

Because I don't reproduce the problem, when I generate a DWG it creates it for me:

with the same options:

Kind regards

Hello

No, I have this situation on any file.

I did some tests, and by unchecking (Force 3D activation) it generates a DWG and if it is checked, it no longer generates any for me. I repeated the operation several times with the same result each time.
