Convert files from 2021 to 2020

Hello

Do you know if it is possible to convert 3D and plans from SldW 2021 to 2020?

A colleague in service from outside our company is working on 2021. Following his imminent departure, I have to take over his work but 2021 is not deployed in our company.
I will have to retrieve these 3D and plans and then update them according to our progress in the study.
Instead of going through a step and retyping all the plans, I would have liked to know if this conversion was possible and that in the 2020 version the links between 3D parts and 2D plans would be kept to facilitate modifications.

Thank you in advance for your help

No, it is not possible to upgrade to the previous version. A subject that has unfortunately been raised many times.
The only decent possibility for me is to finish the deal with the 2021 version otherwise you'll have to do it all over again. (Step= non-modifiable body)
For your information, we force external service providers to work with the same version as us, otherwise it is a problem.

Hello

If you have Solidworks 2020 SP5 installed, you can open the 2021 files.

AND it seems that you can save them as a STEP, and then you can use the FeatureWorks feature to recreate the build tree

Yes @ac_cobra_427 but it remains a body and the part or assembly is not modifiable.
For me the only solution is to finish the study on the 2021, or redo everything on the 2020 (depending on the progress and time for the 2 solutions.

@sbadenis

To go faster for the conversion, do you think it is appropriate to use the parasolid format which seems to "give a damn" about the version number.

Kind regards

Not better than a Step @Zozo_mp , @thomas.bossonnet wants to recover the blueprints and 3d the only way to recover this and be able to update them as requested is to work on the 2021 or higher.

So for me neither a step or other neutral format can be suitable because the planes are lost and the bodies are not modifiable (except adding and removing material but a pain.
And the solution of the version sup same thing 3D very difficult to modify.
My advice passed to the 2021 to finish this case.
Be careful, however, not to open a bookcase or other business, otherwise it will turn them into a 2021 version...

If it is possible to copy/paste sketches and functions from a 2021 instance onto a 2020, then there may be a way to redo the part quickly with the 2 SW instances open, as these are functions common to both versions.

Hello
During the MyCAD I was able to see a Gold SW partner who could perhaps provide a solution.
It is able to recreate a tree from another format so why not from a step.

May the force be with you.

If it really works, it should be a hit! for the moment limited to 2018 - 2022 for SW.
I haven't found the price of the license

Hello
I wonder how they manage to bypass/recreate in 2018 the options/functions that only exist in 2022.

I think it's the same principle as FeatureWorks, it determines the functions to be taken according to the shape, geometry and design of the part.

bjr,
So from what I understand, there is a learning to be done during the first uses and then he will reproduce his learning according to the geometries encountered.
It is a validated Gold Partner.
May the force be with you.

@sbadenis , precisely by using FeatureWorks you can modify a step or a parasolid because by launching FeatureWorks it recreates a construction tree with the sketches and everything that goes with it.

Yes, I know FeatureWorks @ac_cobra_427 and enjoy it from time to time, but it's viable for one or 2 pieces.
If it is necessary to do it on a complete study with several hundred parts and assembly, then it is better to move to the 2021 version to finalize the study.
For that only @thomas.bossonnet will be able to answer us on the subject.
And in any case, without 2021, he will only recover the parts, not the associated drawings as requested.

Finally, 2021 being installed by our IT department
