Convert an STL file from a 3D SCAN to a volume

Hi all

I would like to have your enlightenment, my concern concerns an STL file that was generated after a scan of a model. First of all, I would like to know how to make it usable, to make it a solid one.

I tried to open it by importing the STL file in volume or surface but solidworks tells me that the file is too large.

Then I tried to use Scanto 3D but nothing is available in the icons (except curve wizard)

Thank you in advance for your help and "keep safe":)

by posting the file it would be simpler to me

Hello

Yes, I know, sorry, but for confidentiality , I can't :(.

If you can, imagine a cylinder open on one side (I can't close) with grooves all around.

Hello odic1

If you want to have other results, you have to start from the dot file generated by your scanner and use the right tools and procedures.

While waiting for other opinions and as I see your part, you convert your STL into PART (SLDPRT).

From your STL you can add the material you are missing as you would if everything had been created directly in SW. It all depends on whether you have holes due to lack of material everywhere or only in certain places.

Kind regards

Hello

Try 3D Builder C is a free Microsoft Store software

You slip your STL in it and you have it repaired and it converts it into volume

Hello

For STLs that are too large, I use meshmixer.

The software allows you to redefine the size of your mesh (manually) and then I export as a step file.

The software tells you at the bottom right the number of triangles in your room. This gives an indication of the "complexity/size" of your room.
