Welding seam in sheet metal

Hello

I am working on solidworks 2012 and I would like to create a weld seam on a sheet metal part :

It is a rectangular "tube". I created a tube with the folds etc... but I would like the junction of this bent sheet metal to be a cord

welding. Basically, a tube with 3 plies and a welding bead along its entire length to close it.

but impossible to create this cord!!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Arnaud.

Hello Arnaud,

I don't think you manage to create a weld bead with the function: "Weld bead" or "Fillet weld bead", in my opinion you should make this bead with an extrusion, or even a sweep depending on the shape of your part.

Don't fuse the volume or you won't be able to unfold.

Have a nice day

Hello Mick,

Thank you for your answer, I'll do it with a swipe so...

Have a nice day.

To be able to make a weld bead in your 3D part, you need to have 2 bodies (and not just one !!).

The solution is to make a "micro" cut in order to have 2 bodies. (see example attached).

Being able to put a weld on a single body is a good idea to put back up for future versions of SW

Hello Férdéric,

This is indeed a solution for Arno, but since it is a sheet metal part, he will not be able to unfold it in one go, but your answer could be useful for people who would like to do this on a "non-sheet metal" part

The improvement of being able to put a cord on a piece composed of a single body could be quite good.

Hello;

That's a good question!

I will try to create two bodies, the first being the sheet metal bent as you wish.

The second being for example its symmetrical.

You arrange that the faces of your two bodies, the ones you want to weld, are competing on an edge and there, you can create your fillet weld.

Then think about removing the second body that you only used for welding.

I haven't tried it but I don't see why it won't work.

If I don't see any news by tonight I'll try to do it!
