Point-by-point scoring

Hello, is it possible to know the odds between two points that we select?

Let me explain, when I have two intersecting objects, if I try to know the maximum dimension between these two objects, the measure tool never gives me the desired dimension, it will almost always look further than where I clicked (edge or face).

For the coast you want, I'm going through a sketch by converting the entities. At least I'm sure of it for this specific case.

But have you tried the "Projected to" function in the measurement tool?

Edit: sorry not conversion of entities but intersection curve in Tools/Sketching Tools

With the image. Example on a part. In assembly, you can proceed in the same way.

As indicated in the help, you can project a measurement on a face and it's easier than creating a sketch http://help.solidworks.com/2012/French/SolidWorks/sldworks/HIDD_MEASURE.htm

in the case of your jpeg

if you select the top edge in green and the top edge of the penetration hole of your tube

you should have the right rating with the measure tool

@joss so I had the opposite, it only measured points that I selected and I went back to normal by clicking on the toolbar the XYZ trihedron icon and then if we select on the min side on the Max side the icon of the 2 circles we can do between points

You can also create a point at the intersection of your 2 pieces

In a case like this, I make a cut of the assembly.

When you face the cutting plane, SW allows you to select the end of the edge.

So, I tested your proposals.
@Lucas, your link doesn't work (at least this morning):(
@gt22, I tried to select a bunch of different edges to make the measurement right, impossible to get the right measurement. And since it's one room that goes through another, there are no holes.
@gerald, I looked for what you were talking about but I think you must have confused, it's not the trihedron icon that makes you measure from point to point but the "point to point" icon, located right next to the trihedron. The small problem is that it's rather imprecise because it takes the measurement right where you clicked.
@Tomalam, the problem is that I don't really know where to create my stitch, if I knew the exact measurement where my pieces are touching, I wouldn't have a problem^^
@Pascal, the cut works very well but as I already work in the cut, I would have to remove my already existing cut to recreate one, measure, and put my cut back in place. Quite a bit of wasted time.
@Benoit, I had never used the intersection curve but it will be very useful in the future, even if it creates a sketch at the time, I just have to leave it without saving it and at least I am sure of the accuracy of my dimension !

On the other hand, I also tried the "Project on" tool, as indicated @Lucas and @Benoit but I admit that I didn't manage to get my rating...

To come back to the @Pascal proposal and the fact that you are already in section, did you notice that you could make several cuts and even parallel cuts in the section view tool? (maybe that's what you're already doing!)

See image:

  • Section 1 from the front (existing section in your case)
  • Section 2 in parallel to section 1 but facing the other direction
  • Section 3 perpendicular to section 1

Yes, actually, as I'm working on a large building, my three cuts are still active.

What would be useful for me would be to be able to insert sections distinct from each other and to be able to insert as many as I want (like in Revit) but here, SW only allows you to use 3 sections and if you want to move one, you are forced to enter the Property manager who manages all three. And since I'm working on rather large assemblies (and with a lot of surface), when I validate my cuts, it takes about 20-30s to load, I'll waste a lot of time for a small measurement:( For me, it's faster to create a sketch with the intersection curve tool and delete it afterwards. (or not to save it)
