Regarding the colors : Microsoft has indeed modified these colors but the signage is clear black writing on a gray background. SolidWorks has chosen blue/gray over gray, which makes it more difficult to read.

Compare Word and Solidworks.

 

In the future it would be wise for the user to be able to choose between several interface colors.

FYI in SP3, you can choose to go back to the old icon style in:

System Options > Colors:
