I am currently working on the configuration of SMARTBOM in order to generate automatic bills of materials.
I'm afraid of being limited in the construction of my nomenclature. For example, I would like to divide my nomenclature into several groups, for example to divide it by material.

Do you think it is possible to build such a bill of materials via SMARTBOM?

Smartbom exports a bill of materials, if you choose to use the Excel format, nothing prevents you from making a pivot table for example that retrieves all your values and sorts them by materials.
However, this will not be done directly at the level of Smartbom.
Or another method if pivot table is too complex for you, just filter in your Excel table by materials.

In addition to @sbadenis's answer, I would add that it is possible to associate macros directly in the SmartBom export model (*.xlsm format) (since always in the old version of SmartBom and since only the 2025 version sp1.1 in their new version of Smartbom).
