I would like to make an envelope of an assembly so that a client can get an idea of the exact footprint without having the whole design.
With the 2012 version, I used the "envelope" function but unless I'm mistaken, it has disappeared.
Today, I use the recording as a piece but the tree structure is still clearly visible...

If you want to give your client an image of the assembly without giving the tree of your work, you can make it a defeature of your assembly. I, like my customer at solidworks, give him speepak assemblies, with this function he can see everything but not dimension anything because when you approach the mouse the drawing fades away.
