Unfolded sheet metal in a drawing

Hello

I'm new to your forum. Let me explain.

being a Draftsight user for a while, I want to switch to a 3D software that could help me with everything related to sheet metal work at first.

I'm currently in the testing phase on Spaceclaim.

My question: After having made a sheet metal part, I would like to be able to put a 3D general view on my drawing (which will be intended for the operator on the bending machine), a 2D view with the dimensions and a last view which would be an unfolded view of the sheet metal. For the first two views, no problem, however, I can't display in the same layout an unfolded.

Could you help me?

I'm attaching a photo of a drawing as I would like

Thanks in advance

Benoit

Hello

However, according to your image, you have the unfolded with it.

Indeed on the photo it's an example of what I would like to have. It's a plan made by a customer under solid works

For sure, to find a lot of space claim expert. And that's often the problem with alternative software. I looked on youtube there are a lot of videos with sheet metal but never any drawing. Maybe another one not watched will tell you what to do. And good luck!

The main problem is that my company has only two workers. It's difficult for me to make a solidworks or other profitable.

For the moment, I don't know much, spaceclaim is the only possible solution for me at less than 2000€/year.

I have to make a decision before the end of the year.  I still have an appointment with a solidworks reseller but I'm very afraid to discover the note...

Thanks all the same for the research

You can also rent Solidworks instead of buying a license...

Hello@benoit_3

You have to differentiate between the initial purchase with a big promo at the moment and the annual maintenance that you didn't have to take, if your company's means are limited for the moment.

My take on buying CAD software. You do something simple, you search for "SpaceClaim Forum" and you look at how many forums exist in the world.

If you can't find it, then don't buy the software because there is always a time when you need help without having to resort to the hot-line, which is always paid.
When I switched from Inventor to Solidworks, I looked at the four programs of equivalent class. I looked at the support and the level of activity of the forums. Boom!!! I chose SolidWorks and eliminated two very well-known ones for these reasons.

Besides , I'm still surprised that you can't find a solution to your PB in the online help. Inserting a view should be a basic function anyway.

Kind regards

Why not FreeCad with sheet metal module, I've never tried it but at least it's free:

So you risk nothing by trying.

Initial purchase SW : approx.6000€
Annual maintenance: ~1500€/year
As @Zozo_mp rightly says, maintenance is quite optional and is only used to have the latest versions.

Inventor is about the same price, except that now it's necessarily rental.
It can be interesting if you have a one-time use.

For freecad, it's to be tested effectively.  But I doubt that a free software can be as efficient as a paid software. ( Tested)

See you tomorrow with a solidworks salesperson!

I think I'm going to give up on the idea of a spaceclaim.

In the meantime, I discovered that space claim dxfs generate errors when I import them into my plasma cutting table. Double strokes ect

I also doubt that Freecad is as effective as solidworks (software I use) that's why I've never tested!

I'm counting on you to give us feedback even if I don't expect too many miracles either!

I just remembered this one too which seems to do the job on sheet metal:

https://www.onshape.com/videos/sheet-metal

On the other hand, I have never tested it either. He was advised by one of our colleagues maybe @ gt22 at a certain time? (unless it's someone else!)

Not tested either, there is Z3d but what about the associated community.

For FreeCAD, you have to see the exact needs of @Benoit_3.

Moreover, @Benoit_3, to make your choice, try to consider the future with some margin in terms of your needs.

Here is my feedback following my interview with the salesman who offers me solidworks

Basically, solidworks is better, but we already knew that.

For 6000€ I have the basic version (which is more than enough for me)
To this amount must be added the first year of maintenance which is mandatory: 1500€

Two or three small discounts later, I'm at +- 6500€ excl. VAT for the purchase with the first year of maintenance included.

Spaceclaim is offered to me at 1800€/year... i.e. after 4 years the price of solidworks.

PRICE excluding VAT of course

The counter-argument of spaceclaim is the ease of learning their program.

I'm a little lost...

If Spaceclaim is enough ^why not, after me I don't know and not much help.

Ask Spaceclaim how to make your views like under SW and then you can choose knowing that Spaceclaim can respond or not to your requests. Do they already have a hotline? Is this included?

Before working with SOLIDWORKS I used TOPSOLID which is a sheet metal bomb. I think we have to test everything, but we also have to think about customers who are sometimes demanding on the software used, for example, like CATIA in aeronautics. And then of course what does your activity represent in terms of turnover? Acceptable level of investment?
