Response Diagram Reaction Force on SolidWorks

Hi all

I found this video on Youtube for the calculation of a force to compress a spring.

I would like to make the graph but it is impossible for it to be displayed (at 9min 33 on the video press the button for the graph).

My Solidworks version is education.

Could you please tell me how to solve this problem?

Thank you in advance for your help.

My sincere greetings

I put the link to the video

Hello

Is it the graph that is not displayed, or is it the button to access it?

The response diagram feature is only offered if the simulation is variable over time (non-linear, frequency, dynamic, etc.). It is not in a static simulation.

In addition, the SOLIDWORKS Student Standard (formerly SDK) license offers only a lightweight version of the Simulation application.
You may need a Student Premium Teacher license (ex SEK) to benefit from the diagram feature.
Which one do you have?
Below is the list of simulation studies of a premium version.

That being said, there is no more linear behavior than that of a standard steel coil spring.
A simple static simulation by applying a normal force F to its upper face will give you the corresponding X displacement. Or conversely, impose a displacement X and deduce the effort F necessary to provoke it, on the principle of video.
Then draw the stiffness k of the spring, to draw the curve of its behavior which is a straight line. What can be seen on the example of the video (F = k X, Excel does this very well)...

There is also a theoretical relationship, derived from the Strength of Materials, giving the stiffness k:

  • G: transverse modulus of elasticity of the material (G = 80000 N/mm² for steel)
  • d: wire diameter
  • D: average winding diameter
  • n : number of turns

Hello m_blt,
Thank you for your answer.
For your information, I have the same image for the study (*Teacher, Teacher, Premium).
Pressing the button does not display the curve as in the video.
I don't understand the reason. (I followed the video)
Could you please tell me how to solve this problem?
Thank you in advance.
My sincere greetings,

Hello

It is difficult to identify the problem without having your study.
Maybe the curve display button is inactive?
Remember to click on " Update " to activate it.

I offer you my simulation in SW 2024 version, with a static study and a non-linear (but linear one all the same) study, in line with your video.
It works, see illustration below.

Thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately I only have the 2023 version and not yet the latest 2024.
Could you please tell me how to activate this button?
I don't have a study, I found this video to use it for students to identify a strength.
Unfortunately I can't read the graph.
Thank you for your help.
My sincere greetings

The same model, in SW 2023 version...
SpringSW2023.SLDPRT (1.0 MB)

Hello m_blt,
Thank you for your feedback.
Well received your model, it works.
I tried to open the response diagram when simulating with your model.
The diagram key doesn't work, the diagram doesn't open and I don't know how to activate the button to see the result.
Could you please tell me how to activate it?
Thank you in advance for your help.
My sincere greetings

Hello @sdvo77 ,

I lose my Latin...
After calculating and launching the " List of Resultant Forces" function, two options are proposed:

  • Reaction force
  • External Force

With no entities selected, the " Response Diagram" button is inactive.
Selecting a face and clicking [Update] makes the diagram button active.

You can also test the " External Force" option which offers the " Response Diagram"...

Thank you for your feedback,
I have no choice but the strength of reaction.
The button is active when selecting and updating a face, but I can't visualize the graph.
In the top bar tab I have this
image
Maybe that's why I don't read the graph
I don't know how to make a graph appear.
Could you please tell me how to do this?
Thank you in advance.

For external forces, checking this box in the model properties might be sufficient.

On the other hand, I don't understand why the diagrams are not displayed on your PC. Maybe a checkbox lost in the meanders of SW Simulation's configuration...

Thank you for your feedback.
Same with external forces, no diagram.
Probably a checkbox to read the curve.
Would you inform me to solve this problem?
Thanking you in advance,
My sincere sakutations

Hello:
the Solidworks docs on the diagrams (it's not very full).
https://help.solidworks.com/2025/French/SolidWorks/cworks/t_Graphing_Probed_Results.htm?id=628ae552afcd45fc8dfe0d60db639c27#Pg0
https://help.solidworks.com/2025/French/SolidWorks/cworks/t_Graphing_Probed_Results.htm
But it seems that the majority of diagrams can only be called by right-clicking on the component...

Hello
On the 2024 version it works, you can read the curve.
Thank you for your help.
My sincere greetings
