Hello
I am experiencing a fairly recurring problem on my workstation. I can't insert a component into a product. The following error message appears:
"The file insertion failed.
The file "C:\Users\Ludovic\Desktop\In progress\Boite prise park\TEFLON JACKING.stl" is inaccessible because of the options for locating the linked documents.
The thing is that I manage to miss this inconvenience by opening the file I want to insert next to it and copying and pasting it. But this time I want to insert a .stl and so I can't open it in CATIA without going through the rapid prototyping workshop:
"Invalid format for opening a file. Use the Insert->Existing Component... "
So my question is: How do I remove this error message? An option to deactivate? A workstation or license restriction?
Thanks in advance:)
Hello
"Invalid format for opening a file. Use the Insert->Existing Component... "
This is a warning message when you try to open a file directly (Non-native CATIA).
The application offers you to use the cmd " Insertion->Existing Component." in a CATProduct.
It works very well for 3Dxml for example.
For an STL, STEP, IGES file (this cmd does not work).
You have to transform the file into a . CATPart is what you do in (Temporary) by opening the STL with the license (STL).
You must then save in this file in . CATpart and the most PB to open it or integrate it into an ASS.

The file "C:\Users\Ludovic\Desktop\In progress\Boite prise park\TEFLON JACKING.stl" is inaccessible because of the options for locating the linked documents.
The search options for linked documents are under:
Tools / Options / General / Documents / Location of linked documents.
If you put a screenshot of your options I can look at it.
document environment , I have the default settings of DS.
location. (SearchOrder catia).
I'm surprised at you, CATIA will start looking for the link in (Other folders).
Instead of the file save path (Link Folder).
In any case, I advise you to modify the options one by one if you want to identify where the PB comes from.
Attached is an excerpt from the CATIA help on def search options.
Feat Catalog: Provides a data definition of all application data such as DS resources (.feat files) and third-party resources (. CATfct).
If you create data with an application (DS or third-party), dependencies are created between the document (CATPart, CATDrawing,...) and the Feat catalogs used. This dependency is permanent and will not be removed from the document even if the data is later deleted.
The Enable, Disable, Up, and Down buttons are not available for this policy.
Link Folder : Provides the absolute path saved in the link, such as the path used to save the document.
Pointing Document Folder : Provides the current folder for the document.
Relative Folder : Provides a subfolder with the same starting path. Choosing this strategy makes little sense if you are working in a DLName environment because the hierarchy used to store documents is different from the one used in a folder environment (no notion of "subfolder"). Instead, use the Link Folder policy.
Other Folders : Provides a user-defined list of folders. Don't forget to insert a line break at the end of each line.
Catalogs and Contents : Indicates the absolute path to catalogs and documents saved in the startup installation folder (e.g. c:\Dassault Systèmes\B17\$OS\startup\...). When you migrate from one version to another, all links to a catalog or document in the installation folder are automatically updated to match the new startup path.
