In sheet metal, can you wrap a blank on a last?

The goal for us is to start from the flat sheet with its shape and its cuts to then form it on a die (press stamping type)

It's up to you to create a stamping tool and have this part formed via this tool

so create the form

Create the tool

and this is used as a tool to stamp flat sheet metal

Thank you very much for that answer. We're going to test that!

Hello Marc

I am not adding anything to what our distinguished colleague says @gt22

However you say "wrap a sidewall on a form" when the standard tool offered  by @gt22 only works on flat sheets in my opinion

Also, the tools that allow you to do this are limited to reasonable depths and length-to-width ratios.

This is because SolidWorks does not take into account shrinkage and stamping deformations. So you can very well have a beautiful drawing but when stamping depending on where the shape is placed given that it pulls on the material, you may have surprises. Especially if your shape is close to the edges.

In the same way that it does not take into account all the spring-back effects, nor the non-respect of the direction of the lamination fiber if you do laser cutting and the optimization software puts the parts in all directions, there too you may have surprises.

So you will have the drawing of the perfect theoretical shape but after going to the workshop you will probably have to modify your shape.

But you must know all this, right!     ;-)

Kind regards
