I'm looking for a simple way, to recover the envelope of a set to make a step and be able to give the external shape by removing all the internal details.

Maybe in two successive recordings...
The first:
- save as and choose the " SOLIDWORKS Part (*.prt, *.sldprt) " part type.
- Check the " Exterior faces" box.
The parts are listed in the building tree, but reduced to their outer surfaces.
The second, save as in STEP format.

There is a standard " defeature " tool when you want to communicate an ASM but without the detail of the internal trifect.
On the other hand, you ask for something extra, which is to be able to do a step of the remaining envelopes and that I have never tested if it is possible.
In fact, I don't know if it hides the faces and/or objects. If it only shows the remaining faces after hiding the rest, it's likely that you won't be able to do a step from there.
Since it is designed as an industrial protection tool, a test should be done.
