Motion study

Hello

Can we vary the value of a dimension in a motion study?  In other words, I have a dimension to which I assign two keys, one at 0 seconds and the other at 8 seconds. When I left-click on these keys I get a small window (inaccessible other than with the eyes) telling me that the property of the key is: 0s  D1=24 mm  then on the other key: 8s D1=24 mm. I wish that at 8 seconds D1 was 20 mm.

I don't want to go through a gas plant with ghost bodies not displayed and distance constraints and patati and patata. Just assigning a different value to D1 for each key, is it possible?

Thank you and have a good day

Hello Pierre

I guess all the sequences are in a row in your time-line. In which case you can duplicate your keys by copying them from the clipboard (the starting and ending one of a mini sequence) and change the value of the copied sequence.

If your sequences are not very complicated and you don't have 20 of them in a row on the same odd, then use "Constraint Driver" instead of motion.

Kind regards

PS which version of SW do you have?

Hello Zozo,

Thank you for your answer, but my problem is not to duplicate my keys but to assign a different value to my rating for each of them. I will tell you: "mini sequence) and change the value of the copied sequence". It's changing the value of the copied sequence that I'm worried about. My rating is stubbornly 24 mm and I can't access its edition. I have SW 2019 SP3.

That being said, I'm going to look at the constraint driver which it's true I don't think about often.

Thank you and have a good day

@Pierre

When you say vary the rating, I hope it's the distance between A and B and not the size of the room.  ;-)

Can you post your ASM that I'm looking at!

Do you do well a steering by constraints, it's what is the most reliable and the least smurtzz. You also create a new line with new values.

Kind regards

Zozo,

I'm afraid you've answered my question, so it's not possible to vary a part dimension but only dimensions related to stresses between components. But then why does SW propose to create keys for part dimensions if you can't do anything with them?

Thank you

Hello @Pierre

At the time, when I read your last post, I didn't react.
But your story bothered me and, in the middle of the night, standing in bed: I said to myself but it's of course!!

Finally, your PB of a coin that changes size is a bit like what's in this video.  Your coin would be considered as a spring.

However I think I would take a nut screw with the helical stress (or like a loop chain)

Kind regards

Hello Zozo and happy to occupy your insomnia although ....

Yes, the variable spring stroke is what I called in my question a, small, gas plant where the geometry of a component depends on the position of another component of the assembly. In the case presented by this video there is a piston, a cylinder and a spring, all legitimate parts of the assembly. In my case I only have, let's say, the spring and I would like to vary the geometry without having to create other components. Since SW accepted the creation of keys for sketch dimensions, I thought that maybe it was possible. You have clearly put me back on the right path, it's no. So here's what I wanted to do, but this time in a classic way by linking the geometry of my potato to the position of a "phantom" component that is out of frame.

Thank you and have a good Sunday
