Parts Family on CATIA

Hello

Can we make families of parts on Catia and what is the procedure?

I have attached the type of part I want to derive from.

Thank you

Hi alain.erp

Here is a link that will certainly meet your expectations.

Keep me up to date.

Ced.

Hello Alain.
Under CATIAV5 part families are created from a file driven by a parameterization table.
The file is then integrated into a CATIA Catalog to generate or not the family.
There are a few rules Click HERE (in particular to integrate EBOM Properties into each room of the family. (File name, revision, etc.).
For my part, I start by creating in my generic file the user parameters corresponding to those driven by the table, I then create the geometry that I associate with these parameters. Finally, I generate my Excel table.
Under which version of Catia do you work?

Hi @alain.erp

In theory and practice you will find everything you need below

  1. http://cao.etudes.ecp.fr/index.php?page=familles.htm......
  2. http://l2pro.perso.sfr.fr/%5BLA34H%5D%20CATIA/LIVRET%20CATIA.pdf.....
  3. http://www.cao-catiav5.com/CAOD/catpdfcceug_C2/cceug.pdf......

@+ ;-)

ps: Be careful you won't be able to take for the same assembly.
diff pieces from the same family.
e.g. a bolt dia 8 L 40..and an 8 L 50 will not work.... ; '-(

Hello

Just to clarify the ps of gt22 (probably a reference to a topic that has been going on lately): you won't be able to use different configurations in an assembly if you directly insert the same parameterized part.

On the other hand, you can use your family table to create a catalog. At that time, you will be able to integrate different configurations but which will be instantiated as different parts (e.g. the Catia hardware catalog).

Who is your contact at staübli?

because they can provide you with the CAD directly

Hello, I have put online a video  tutorial to illustrate the process: Click HERE the CATIA files are in R19, you can use them as a base, the geometry comes from the standard CATIA catalog and there are still some variables to control (not defined in your table).

When creating families of parts made available in a catalog, it is very interesting in addition to the parameterized geometry to pass on other information such as (facilitate the implementation of assembly constraints, include company standards, import for example the tapped hole for a screw etc.). Feel free to open a discussion on this topic under the group CATIAV5 ICI.

Thank you so much to everyone!

The answer of gt22 is the most complete, the answer 3. Catalog Componant should give me a better understanding of all this.

To answer the others:

for frédéric HUMBERT, I don't have any contact at STAüBLI, I'm a teacher and one of my students is going to do his internship at Staübli and he will have to create library elements like on the image (I chose one of the simplest with only 3 parameters as an example. My goal is to be able to help my intern by January on the subject.

Thanks to Cédric Bréban and Chamade for their very useful help too.

For franck.ceroux, your link on the last message opens an error page for me. You seem to have tinkered with the example provided, which is very nice of you. Can you resend me the link?

Thanks in advance

Hello alain, for now the tutorial is unpublished (a PB  with the videos, it should be fixed, I'll keep you informed).

The tutorial is available :-)
