STEP file

What is the difference between an AP203 and AP214 STEP file?

I asked myself the same question a week ago!

I think they are:

-Either versions that change like a Solidworks 2013 and Solidworks 2014, but no or very little impact on the file because I have tested several types of STEP and seen nothing different

-Either a difference in quality

Hello

There is one that keeps the colors and not the other, that's already a first point.

Color or no color

Let's say that AP203 is the same as AP 214

The difference is that version 214 is colorful and therefore heavier in file weight

Apparently, AP214 is rather used in automobiles.

It seems to me that I read somewhere, but impossible to find, that STEP 203 was oriented towards "simple" volumes and STEP214 left surface.

Good evening everyone

in ap2014, in addition to the colors as Gerald and super GT point out, we can also transmit the personal properties of the file readable by the properties of Windows Explorer (I can look with dolphin or the Unity manager if it works) and an improvement of imports between different kernels (from parasolid to sat for example). But the transfers between sat and parasolid are still not perfect...

Personally I noticed a more perfomant zip comression.

Anyway, the higher the version, the better it is (quid...!)?

Not sure of my last observation....

As for the auto use, it's that from memory catia uses .stp for the ap203 and . STEP for the ap214 or vice versa but there too to be confirmed.
