I want to open a DRW file, is SOLIDWORKS able to do this? If so, how?

DRW is the drawing format of solidworks

so normally just open

Not necessarily that simple, if the file extension is "drw" at all, it's ProEngineer/Creo in which case SW doesn't know (even SW16).

On the other hand, PTC distributes a viewer: http://www.ptc.com/cad/creo/view-mcad/extension-express which allows export in dwg.

Yes, it can be an old SolidWorks file (*.drw) or a CREO file
