I don't know if some of you use Grabcad to find components as well as put the 3D model. But yesterday they just put their "worbench" solution free of charge for everyone. Worbench is a kind of PDM in the cloud. From what I've seen, there's version control, collaborative work, 3D view by browser, comment system, file blocking... And all for free. It is certainly less powerful than Solidworks' EPDM for example, but it has the advantage of being free.
So I wanted to know if any of you were using it or if others would be interested in using workbench.
I was able to test a little this morning and it's really interesting (project creation, version management...). In addition, the configuration is really very fast and there is even a plugin for Solidworks. I was struggling to install EPDM with license management... This is really the right solution
I just have a problem with the visualization, I can't see my Solidworks files
It's less powerful than PDM and it's more collaborative work but with version management, the viewer... It's still effective. I don't know MYCADPLACE and from what I've seen there are things that are similar.
It seems to me that in terms of storage it is unlimited but you should find out
Opening assemblies, parts, pdf, dxf is not a problem
The rotation of the elements, the creation of cuts, the taking of dimensions are rather efficient and particularly fluid.
All the settings are quite complete: user management, file and folder renaming, revisions...
As far as use is concerned, I design it more like MyCadPlace and it can allow you to visualize an assembly with a customer or supplier without software without taking control of his workstation. And of course it is also used for file transfer.
On the other hand, it remains to be seen what happens to our data: where is it stored, is it resold?
I'm closing the topic, because it got to the bottom of a pile of questions:)
I'm going to use Grabcad Workbench instead of PDM, because having only a PDM license for 2 workstations (1 workstation every day and 1 workstation once a week) it's tricky. In addition, it allows you not to constantly exchange files by USB key and to forget changes
