Unless I'm mistaken, in my opinion it's not possible.

So far I import the stl and I recreate sketches and functions by superimposing myself on the reference stl. Of course, this method has as its limit the ratio between the complexity of the stl and our patience, but it has the merit of being as clean as possible.
PS: Once reproduced, you can delete the imported stl, to leave only 100% SW in the document.

I proceed in the same way, it's painful to modify an stl with solidworks, apparently there has been some effort on the latest version but I haven't tested yet, I discovered that some slicers accept step files if it helps...
