Error message every time SW is closed (Currently the operating system is not configured to run this application)

Hello

after a WINDOWS update, I get an error message every time I close Solidworks, and it's starting to be annoying:

I am forced to close through the task manager.

Have you ever had this problem?

Hello

Some additional information would be necessary.

What is your version of Solidworks?

Your version of Windows?

Your error message does not appear in the body of your message

Ok no worries.

SW 2020 SP4.0 (Update at the same time a few days ago)

Windows 10 Pro (version 19041.508)

The error message appears when I close SW. Another window opens and displays this message (small windows window I guess)

Hello

We don't see the image of your message. What does this message say?

Kind regards

I see attached the image as an attachment.

Under what conditions does this problem occur?

All the time?

This error message may be related to the office suite.

Yes, all the time.

And it is impossible to close this window. It must close it through the task manager (right click - end of tasks)

Have you tried to reinstall solidworks?

I did the update from 2019 to 2020 only last week, but I had this error message before that.

Really weird, because I never had this problem during all the previous months...

The only interventions on my PC were the change of internet network (switch to fiber) and some updates of the annex photocopier

I have the same problem and I have identified the problem. It is because of the latest Microsoft 365 update (version 2008), indeed a machine where the Microsoft 365 update was not yet done automatically did not have the error, and after forced updates to "2008" version, the error appeared when closing solidworks (2020 version SP02 and SP04 same problems) on the other hand I have no idea how to fix the problem for now.

Edit:  Solution found. We have to go back to the July version of Office (Microsoft 365).

Step 1: Open a Command Prompt (no need it to be in Administrator mode)

Step 2: Type the commands:

C:
cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun
officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.13029.20460

Step 3: The Microsoft 365 installer should launch and run for a few minutes (depending on the speed of your connection)

Step 4: Once you have finished installing, launch any office product (word, excel....) and check that the "2007" version has been reinstalled , then disable the automatic updates to prevent the "2008" update from reinstalling itself.

Step 5: Monitor and wait wisely for a fix from Microsoft or Solidworks to fix the problem and then re-enable Microsoft 365 auto updates

Hoping this helps. For me it worked.
Good luck:)

Thank you for your feedback rclavaud, but it seems to me a bit "cobbled together" as a method....

This must be able to be solved??

Hello

Look at your framework version, 4.7 has compatibility issues with solidworks.

may be your problem

Attached is a link describing different ways to find out your installed framework

Fixed issue after joining SOLIDWORKS.

This is a Microsoft Pack Office issue, related to the latest update.

My solution is in no way DIY, it's official manipulations that I found on the Microsoft site, and it remains my basic job ^^... And indeed, if re-installing the July version of the office pack removes the problem, it is obvious that the problem comes from the latest Office update. And when an update causes a problem, we roll-back to the previous version, and we block the auto update while waiting for the problem to be fixed. It's rather standard procedure, I don't see how it's DIY^^

On the other hand you say that the problem is solved, if you have another way to solve the problem it would be good to share it as ^^.
