Solidworks Update

Hello

I am on a SOLIDWORKS 2016 version and I would like to update SOLIDWORKS to the 2018 SP5 version.

Do I have to download all the 2017 to 2018 updates or can I directly update to the 2018 SP5 version?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello

You have to check with your reseller because the rules concerning updates have changed two or three years ago.

Example: You have a 2016 version and you want to switch to 2019 and well you have to pay for the maintenance of the 2017 + the 2018 + the 2019. In addition, there can be pro rata temporis in one direction or the other.

Which means that beyond a certain discrepancy, for example a 2015 moving to 2019, well you better wait for a promo with 4000 € and buy a new license as if you were a new customer.

It will be cheaper than paying the intermediate up-grades, especially since during these promos there are bonuses:  like the premium version for the price of the standard version (if you are interested in the PEF and Visualize Simulation)

It's up to you to do the math, but be careful and ask for the details because between the standard, premium or premium Pro version it's a real souk.

Kind regards

Regardless of the regulatory problems raised by @Zozo_mp, I would say that it is better to do a new installation rather than an upgrade, I would even push the vice to reformat the machine to start on a perfectly sound basis.

Just remember to back up your document templates, tables etc. Be careful with the parameter copy utility: check the paths when reimporting (it's much easier since SW17).

Hello

@Zozo_mp: You can be under a maintenance contract and not upgrade every year (experienced at a time).

To answer the question independently of this, SolidWorks updates are not really updates. You have to completely uninstall the previous version (clean the registry well because SW puts it everywhere and purges it very badly) and then install the new version.

This is a guarantee of stability.
