Modeling a dodecahedron

Hello;

what is the best and fastest method of modeling a dodecahedron (12 painted faces) under AUTOCAD?

See if the anim. file is readable, the template made by myself but it took me some time.

THANK YOU

Model it on a 3D software (ideally SolidWorks of course...) and make a plan (with the orientations you are interested in) to extract a dxf.

It's a bit out of the scope of the question, it's not 100% AutoCAD.

Hello

You can find them on GrabCAD (downloadable in STEP):

http://grabcad.com/library/regular-dodecahedron

Otherwise for the modeling, I hesitate between a part or an assembly:

In any case, the first side must be created.

Then create the plane that will pass through an edge with the corresponding angle.

Then recreate the second face (why not by duplicating the first sketch).

Then do a circular repetition of this face.

In an assembly, it's probably simpler: create a part that will be a face, then insert it 12 times into an assembly.

Finally, constrain the edges and vertices together as you go along (by fixing the first piece).

I just saw that there is a tutorial on Grabcad:

see this tutorial video under SolidWorks everything is there

All you have to do is convert to AutoCAD

And you can indeed find tutorials for AutoCAD too:

I was ready to propose to make a sheet metal piece, but Lucas Prieur's tutorial already addresses this subject.

Hello

I will start with the principle of making a sphere.

I cut the sphere to create the first face.

I then make the 5 sections of the 5 adjecent faces.

(You need to know the angle between 2 faces).

And so on until you cut out all 12 sides.
