Naming CAD files

Good evening everyone,

I'm coding an addin for inventor to name the CAD files created (automatic naming by suggestion).

I know that this work has already been done, but existing addins do not allow you to name all types of files. Or if not, it pays off...

I would like to know the naming conventions you use. For the moment, I have set up the convention that I have been using for a long time:

"PRT-" + counter for parts, "ASM-" + counter for assemblies and so on.

Wholesale Good, Prefix + Counter

The purpose of this addin is to make up for the fact that Vault basic does not offer this option and that we don't all need to have Vault Pro.

It is also useful for single-user projects.

When this addin is finished, I will gladly share it with the site's community (after testing of course).

In passing, he distinguishes between standard part, sheet metal parts, content center parts, standard assembly, welded assembly, frame generator assemblies, assistants' assemblies/parts (bolted assembly, piping/cables), drawings and presentations.

To summarize, the two questions are:

-What naming convention do you use?

-Do you think it is useful to distinguish between the type and sub-type of document?

Thank you for your answers, which I hope will be numerous.

Kind regards.

This video from AVENAO partially answers your question:

Otherwise, I had already raised the question here:

And the tutorial in question:

Hello

Thank you for your answer.

I had already seen Avenao's tutorial. It partly solves my question but doesn't tell me which convention is the most used.

From a code point of view, the data source must be different depending on the convention used. That is why I am asking you what convention you use. I would do an average and take the first two or three to code them.

If only there was one convention or even only a 10.

I believe that each company has its own agreement, stemming from a history or a need.
