Hello
I've also been running with NanoCad for 3 months, I also find it very good, but I still had a large file (20 MB) that I couldn't open. I had to open it with Draftsight, then save it as R14 to be able to open it with NanoCad.
Have a nice day

Hello
Thanks to @sbadenis and @OBI WAN for the link of NANOCAD, tried and adopted by us replacing Draft-Sith for 2 months, and for what they did with it it works very well.
Hello
You also have CadOGéo which opens the latest DWG/DXF versions. It is business-type but as it is a complete CAD software, it can be used for anyone who needs to create plans. The interface resembles the versions of Autocad 2010.... So we're not lost.
The basic version is free. The www.cadogeo.fr site
I think that the end of Draftsight's free service is not necessarily Dassault Systèmes' primary intention. They rely on Autocad-compatible CAD libraries made by an American company called ODA that will change its royalty system for 2020 by limiting free versions. And since 99% of clones use their libraries.....
After the debate on free ... Would you agree to work on a software for free so that other people can use it and charge for their own service? I think that the existence of a tool that saves me time and is offered at a fair price is justified.
Hello
@ mourey.patrick I don't really agree with you I'll explain when you acquire SW and are touted a free draftsight. Then once signed we say "uh no it's paying" not cool.
may the force be with you.
@ OBI WAN +1 When you have been boasted for years about Solidworks to replace Autocad and with the advantage of Draftsight equivalent to Autocad as a free equivalent and once you take the plunge you are made to pay for it, it goes down well for me too..
@ mourey.patrick I just tried CadOGéo and it's not suitable for my case. I can't open the dwg files I have (neither the small nor the big ones) And these files open without problem with draftsight or NanoCad.
The only drawback found in NanoCad apart from the English language is that it does not open recent versions of dwg. But it will be enough for us to have a Drafsight or Autocad license to be able to register in a lower version so that our 20 or so cartoonists can then use it on their respective workstations. (often in simple reading or quick layout plan)
@ + 1 OBIWAN
At the price of the SW license, the DraftSith license should be included with, at least, an equivalent to the version that was free until now.
Hello
I don't have any problems opening dwgs (10kb to several hundred MB) under CadOGéo except sometimes where there are external references (but if they are not present on the client workstation!). You should send some examples of problems on the contact page of the site.
But I'm thinking about it, be careful, the free version only opens and edits files up to the 2009 version. While the paid version opens and edits up to the 2020 version.
I may have been misunderstood in terms of free admission. Dassault could indeed make a package for the 2 softwares.
What bothers me is the development of subscriptions to acquire software and it's ADOBe's fault. If I'm a small entrepreneur who only needs the main functions of a software (which is still the case for many people) I don't want to put my hand in my pocket every year to have the latest software mount with new functions that don't interest me. I know a lot of people who work with Autocad 2006 (well you have to be on XP :( ) In addition, it creates a lot of dependence on the publisher....
Hi all
Has anyone tried the idea of FUZ3D with dwg editor provided by Solidworks at the time in order to replace Drafsight ?
Thank you in advance.
Yes me, hihihhihi (joke)
The only problem there can be is the version of the dwg that you can open (after 2009 screwed up, I go through SW and re-save in DWG 2000 for example to modify it)
For those who have the SW CDs until 2009 you have everything you need on the record in question.
Copy the DWeditor folder and install it.
Small appendix: to convert an Autocad file to an earlier version, you need to use DWG TrueView which is a free Autodesk tool.
Well finally it's still free Draftsight!! Does anyone know why? False advertising in order to make users pay?!
Hi all
I have the impression that it remains free until you finish your free activation year.
Here we had a position in reactivation in January: it was no longer possible to launch it without paying.
Mine still works... Until when?
Another colleague got the message of reactivation before the Christmas holidays, so maybe another year of free if my theory is correct.
Anyone know how to find out the "anniversary" date of DraftSight activation?
For those who use or want to use "dwgeditor": the software dating from 2009 does not know the most recent formats of dwgs.
It is therefore possible to not be able to open a recent dwg file with DWG editor.
Luckily Autocad has the magic solution: just install Autodesk's "dwg Trueview" which is free and available here: https://www.autodesk.fr/products/dwg/viewers#
This software is a dwg viewer and in addition it allows you to change the version of the dwg for free (and therefore to switch from a recent format to an old format readable / editable by "dwgeditor"). The icing on the cake: you can make conversion batches to process several files at the same time.
I have to look at this, using DWG editor, if I can't open the file I just use SW to do it and convert it to version 2000 for example. but SW is slow enough to open a DWG/DXF.
As soon as I get to work I'm going to test it^^
Have a good day to you
Hello
Following the discontinuation of DraftSight, we tested several alternatives at home promising all the free and the same features.
Our final choice fell on NanoCad : https://nanocad.com/
There is a free version but in English.
By digging a little on the site you should quickly find the translation files to have a French version.
(Just in case, don't hesitate to send me a little message and I'll send you the elements to "get" the translation Fr)
Installed on all the company's workstations since the beginning of the month, the feedback from us is more than appreciated^^
Hello @ Macros227
Can you upload your nanocad solution in French on the forum, it may interest people.
may the force be with you.
With a DraftSight 2018 x64 SP3 license installed, do you know how to find out the end of the one-year period before re-activation and therefore switching to paying?
I searched but I couldn't find anything and I deleted the activation emails where I could have found this date...
