Optimizing the compression of STEP files

I need to transmit large SOLIDWORKS files in STEP format, and I would like to know the best way to compress them to reduce their size?

Hello

You can use free software like this one for example:

Kind regards

Hello

I think you have to start by saving the assemblies directly in STEP so that you have all the parts in the same file.

Then, it is better to understand the STEP file itself in ZIP or RAR because SW will not be able to do better :/

Good luck

I don't think there is a way to optimize a STEP file.

You can reduce it with a compactor like 7zip (choose extreme compression), then transfer it with a site like http://e-nautia.com/share/ which limits to 10 GB (problem with Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 I think, choose Chrome, FireFox or other), or https://www.wetransfer.com/ 2 GB maximum.

A small clarification about Xtremsplit, the end customer must have the software to decomprese.

It is possible to do the same thing in ZIP (split the file into several parts) and the decompression is done on Windows without any other software!

Once you've checked the compression mode, you can close your question by validating the answer that helped you the most.

For this kind of practice, I can only recommend the use of Dropbox software (or other) for sending large files. You send the link by email and you're done! I don't know the exact size of the assembly, or the degree of privacy, but you could also transmit the native files with this system.
