I am here to ask for your help regarding a subject of rolled sheet metal and loss of plies in Solidworks 2022.
Very simple, I made a cylinder of 23.9m in diameter (large tank ) that I can put flat without any problem.
Next to that, I have a 2D AutoCad plan representing the flattening of this same cylinder. When I do a Drawing export from SolidWorks to AutoCad and I superimpose the flat unfolding (in Yellow color on the screenshot below), I have a lack of material of about 6m (75.08406m for the AutoCad plan and 69.2391618m for the imported Solidworks plan).
If I check the formula for calculating the flattening of a circle (DxPi), I get 75.08406m. so my AutoCad plan is good, then I have to correct the bend loss setting in the SolidWorks sheet metal module.
And now, I'm drying! If you ever have the solution to get the right length of sheet metal unrolled, I'm all for it.
In the bending area chooses k factor and 0.333 (neutral fiber at 1/3 of the thickness) for thickness greater than 3mm or 0.5 for thickness less. If you choose k-factor you can't have 6m difference. Maybe bad data in the bend loss parameter. Example below with ep10mm dév=75.051 for 10mm sheet metal if necessary you can adjust the k factor slightly to be closer but on a large diameter the thousandths will not play much.
I played on the value of the K-Factor to get as close as possible to the desired value. it seems to work, I'm going to try to do the extract to AutoCad and superposition everything to see if it's good.
Well after testing it works. I adjusted my K factor up to 1 to get as close as possible to my desired rating. Layering works well. I'm surprised that it's only due to this story but so much the better. Thank you for your help
By taking the K factor to 1 it's as if you take the development with the neutral fiber on the outside, which is not stupid on such a large Ø with a thickness that in the end must be negligible compared to the Ø. Don't forget to select the correct answer. Otherwise nice tank, is it to collect your water lost in your garden?
@sbadenis Oh ah no, I don't have such a big garden it is a tank for a methanizer (biogas production). And yes, in my case, the thickness of the sheet varies between 15mm and 5mm so very small compared to the diameter of 24m. So that's more than enough for me to superimpose my flat unwinding on autocad 2D plans from the supplier (in order to position my taps outside the sheet metal overlap areas) Thanks again
