My cross-sectional views do not show any outline of parts, so it is very difficult to see the contacts between them.
I'm in full view of " Edges in Shaded Image mode".
This problem is present in both assemblies and parts.

It happens to me too, in this case I have it rebuilt (two-color light) or I change the display style example wireframe and then I come back to shaded.

If it's a section in 3D, look at the options available in " Section View "

An alternative, not the most practical but at least it is effective, would be to temporarily change the color of the parts to be distinguished, in order to differentiate them during the design/assembly.
Or better, the " cartoon " mode of realview can maybe help (but I can't test it right now).
To go in the direction of @Maclane, it does this to me when I select " Graphics section only " in the cut options

After restoring my settings, it went back to normal.
But " Graphics sections only " seems to fit the original problem.
