SW and PDM transition from 2018 to 2021

Hello
I just did a SW update from version 2018 SP5 to 2021 SP4.1. I forwarded PDM in the update but I can't connect any workstations anymore. Did you have this problem and how did you solve it?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Hello

A bit succinct as a description of the problem. Licensing problem? Problem accessing SW? PDM?

So don't worry about SW license, I can work offline PDM. When I connect to PDM, it gives me the message Unable to connect to the archive server for the vault.

It seems to me that it is imperative to upgrade the server beforehand in the new version, is this really the case?

Hello

You also have to update the sql servers and archive servers: PDM only works with versions of solidworks older or equal to its own (to avoid weird bugs..)

To update the server, you have to be a PDM admin?

Hello

Above all, you have to be an administrator at the server level.

The update procedure is documented, but be careful because at the slightest error your data will probably be lost (or at least corrupted).

The same goes for the data conversion utility (fileversionupgrade), install it as an administrator on the computer from which it will be launched (the user profile installing the utility must be the one using it). This is not explicitly detailed in the SW procedure and I can tell you that it makes the principle of renaming/moving files unstable.
