Hello
I would like to know if it was possible to lock plans or solidworks parts, not be able to modify them and/or ask for a password when opening.
Hello
I would like to know if it was possible to lock plans or solidworks parts, not be able to modify them and/or ask for a password when opening.
EPDM is the best way to "lock" files.
and it even works when sending files to a subcontractor?
Hi @ LOLO L.A
(I was going to ask the question for what type of protection)
So look at this link
http://forum.solidagora.com/topic1796.html
you will have a protected file exchange appercu
@+ ;-)
Hello.
In the free genre.
For the plan (save in pdf)
Then the whole (part + plan) use 7Zip and put a password on the zip file.
And we give the password to the right person.
The question requires clarification: what is the exact purpose? It is in the context of a shipment to a customer from what I understand.
So you have to define what you want the client to be able to do with your files exactly.
Password locking, that's not a problem, there are hundreds of free file encryption software on the net but I doubt it's your need!
The question you should ask yourself at the outset is, I think, what are the features that I am going to allow my recipient.
Namely:
Is it just a consultation or a visualization?
- in this case use E-drawing
Should your recipient use your plans or parts for other applications (assembly, simulations...)?
- in this case, the easiest way would be to convert your files
Must it be able to modify them and keep the tree structure (exchange-exchange)
- in this case no other possibility than to make him preply the natives.
I hope I gave you some good advice. At your service.
Cédric.
Hello
You can save your files in eDrawings format, in which case the person will be able to view your design without being able to edit it. If you are equipped with eDrawings Pro, you can give it the possibility to take dimensions etc... If your customer already has eDrawings, they can, in the same way, read your SolidWorks files directly without going through a conversion
Kind regards
Hello
When a customer can't visualize well, we send him a 3D pdf of the part or assembly (in solidworks).
This way he visualizes better and he can't modify or take sides.
Kind regards
EPDM manages the lifecycles of your SolidWorks parts.
For example, with us a room with 3 states possible:
- IN DESIGN: the part is in the process of being created, so it is editable.
- VALID: When it is in this state, it means that the part is "good for manufacturing", so it is not editable from SolidWorks (it is simply made read-only by the EPDM system).
- UNDER MODIFICATION: like all mechanical parts, they are likely to be modifiable, so you must do a very specific action (new revision) from SolidWorks via the EPDM add-in to have the right to modify the part. By doing this action, the piece systematically takes a hint. Once the modification has been made, the part must be revalidated to make it non-modifiable.
Hello
If it's a set, you can save it as a piece and that way the user won't really be able to add changes to it
Edrawing.
In addition, it is not necessary to have Edrawing Pro to offer the option on the file, just change the option when saving the file in Edrawing format.
@Jose-accessa
Be careful, you need to have SolidWorks Pro and therefore Edrawing Pro to be able to offer the dimension on the Edrawings file.

THANK YOU for all your answers, there are multiple possibilities that I will try, and see which one suits me best.
Hello
Please I have executables from .smg solid works and I want to make an assembly with is there a way to that?
