Is it possible to combine (subtract) and keep two bodies?

Hello

I'm new to SolidWorks for a project, and I'm currently stuck combining bodies.

I need to subtract one volume from another. For this I found the "Combine/Subtract" feature, which works well and returns the volume I need. On the other hand, it erases the removed body, which I would like to keep. I want to keep it because I would need to vary its dimensions (for calculations later) and each time adapt my volume accordingly. Is there a way to do that?

I don't know if my request is clear enough, so for more details, I'm attaching an image of my project.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

It seems to me that this is not possible, I had indeed cheated by making a copy of the body at the time in order to subtract it in order to keep the original body.

One solution could be to make a derivative part, i.e. you insert your part (the seat) into another part file where you do your subtraction.
This means that you will have 2 linked files.

Good evening

You could see with the intersection tool, so you can choose the volume to keep.

just  "insert them in a new room"  after selecting them in the volume or surface bodies, it's up to you .

Hello

For my part I use the same solution @sbadenis, it is in my opinion the simplest and fastest solution.
