I am looking for an application to be able to draw a gear profile by giving different variables (modulus, number of teeth, pressure angle etc.)
Hello
Do you want a gear with all the dice absolutely or just a schematic representation?
Because we do special work and have noticed that SolidWorks is quite slow down if there are many gears in an assembly, so we use a diagram:
- Simple extrusion from the Ø of the axle to the Ø of the foot.
- Thin extrusion for the tooth side and head Ø.
- A thin extrusion for the primitive Ø that protrudes 1 mm to be able to constrain it.
See attached image.
And this allows you to have clean cross-sectional views:

Or else:
For a very special dentition you have to draw a tooth and make a circular repetition,
For a more classic dentition, use the Toolbox.
To do this, you can create your own file to generate gears.
For example with solidworks:
-You create constants that correspond to the characteristics of the cogwheels.
-Then you make a disc whose outer diameter corresponds to the diameter at the base of the tooth.
-You create a sketch of a tooth by putting the equations corresponding to the standard teeth (which you can easily find on the internet e.g. http://jluc.durou.free.fr/documents/SSI/z-Archives/Revisions/engrenages.pdf)
-You make an extrusion of this sketch and you repeat the generated tooth with a circular repetition started by your constant number of teeth.
Then, by configuring the values of the constants in different configurations, Solidworks will automatically create the desired tooth for you.

It should be noted that the toolbox only offers an approximate representation of the teeth. You won't be able to use it to make the pinion.
At one time there was the Altitech library that offered this, but it doesn't work very well on recent versions of Solid.
GearTrax was very useful for me to make bevel gears.

Hello
attached is a model.
You can change the number of teeth, modulus, pressure angle and coef. tooth width.
The change is in the equations (global variables).
Note: this is only a model, not to be used in CAM.
