As part of a future activity, I am looking to know the hourly rate of an independent draughtsman in metal construction (stairs, railings, mezzanine, etc.) working on SOLIDWORKS?
Is this rate the same for a draughtsman specializing in special machines? If not, what is it?
The question is legitimate, but unfortunately I don't think there is a precise answer. Indeed, with the new online platforms you will always find a guy in the depths of Uzbekistan who can answer for 5€/h! First of all, what you need to highlight and quantify is the services you offer (remote work or on customer site? with your equipment or without? with a license, which one? Are you trained, graduated, certified...? what are your confidentiality, security, quality procedures? how fast do you work? what deliverables can you provide? are you ready to work, at night, on weekends, on public holidays... to respond to emergencies or overloads? what is your load plan?....)
Then you have to be able to estimate all your expenses: computer equipment, license + maintenance, professional liability, social security contributions, urssaf, bank fees, mutual insurance? foresight? Rent, internet package, mobile package, electricity, transport.... etc
Then you compare all this with an estimated and/or desired profit plan and you will deduct your rate. This is not to be taken lightly, because if you mess up, your customer may not accept that you change your price along the way!
