Groove question

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the grooves, should they be dimensioned with a radius or with a diameter? And why.

Thank you very much!

Hello

What grooves are you talking about? Key, circlips, ...

An imrpim'écran perhaps?

Are you talking about oblongs?

As you wish, it depends on your future application.

It's a bit the same.

I would also say that there are no real rules. It's more about what's functional. You can also rate the width between plates if it makes more sense (e.g. keyway).

Hello

For the circlip grooves, it doesn't matter, if all the dimensions on the shaft are of the same style (having a radius dimension next to a diameter dimension is not very practical for readability), but in general I prefer diameter dimensions:

For the keyways, I prefer the width dimensions of the plates (neither radius nor diameter) I find that it is more readable:

Hello

I quote in diameter.

The reason is for accuracy. By definition, a diameter dimension is 2 times more accurate than a radius dimension. On a radius dimension, the tolerance of the dimension is multiplied by 2.
